Swinging for a Cause: The 3rd Annual Scramble for SYNGAP!

Posted on:

Julie Miles, the Scramble for Syngap Chair, has been volunteering with SRF since 2021.  She joined the Board of Trustees in 2023. Julie lives in South Carolina with her husband and three children, including 9-year-old Syngapian, Miller.

On October 5th, we had the privilege of hosting the 3rd Annual Scramble for Syngap at Greer Golf in Greer, SC, and what an incredible day it was! With nearly 20 teams showing up to participate, the energy was palpable from the moment the first golfers arrived until the final prize was handed out. The weather was nothing short of perfect—clear blue skies and warm autumn sunshine made for ideal conditions to enjoy a full day of golf for a great cause.

As the day began, our golfers were treated to a delicious breakfast generously donated by Chick-Fil-A. It was the perfect way to fuel up before heading out to the greens. With nearly 20 teams ready to hit the course, the competitive spirit was alive and well, but the camaraderie and support from everyone made it clear that this was about so much more than the game.

Before the tournament officially began, we gathered all of our participants to talk about why we were all there. It was an opportunity to speak from the heart and share what SYNGAP1 is all about, and how their participation was helping support families affected by this rare genetic disorder. We were fortunate to have three SYNGAP1 families in attendance, whose presence gave the event even deeper meaning, reminding us of all of the important work being done to support those living with SYNGAP1.

The success of the tournament would not have been possible without our incredible volunteers. From the moment registration opened until the final prize was awarded, they were working non-stop to ensure that everything ran smoothly. Their hard work behind the scenes was crucial to the event’s success, and we can’t thank them enough. Whether they were handing out food, setting up tables, or ensuring our golfers had everything they needed, their dedication shone through, and they helped create an event that everyone will remember.

The excitement didn’t stop with the golf itself. We gave away a variety of prizes throughout the day, including door prizes, contest prizes, and our highly anticipated first and second place awards. But the highlight of the prize giveaways had to be the electric E-bike, which was a crowd favorite and had everyone eagerly waiting to see who would take it home.

The 3rd Annual Scramble for Syngap was an enormous success, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who made it possible. From our participants, sponsors, and donors to our outstanding volunteers, and of course, our SYNGAP1 families, this event was a true celebration of community and support. We are already looking forward to next year and can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together. Thank you to all who took part—you’re helping make a difference in the lives of SYNGAP1 families everywhere!
