Teresa Diercks

Teresa received her B.A. dual degree in Criminal Justice & Psychology from The University of Alabama (roll tide!) and M.S. degree in Occupational Therapy from The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Teresa and her husband, Ryan, met in high school while working at the same pizza restaurant. They are now married and located in Pensacola, FL with 2 amazing children, Thatcher (6) and Mira (3).

Thatcher, was diagnosed with SYNGAP1 in September 2021. The diagnosis was long overdue. Teresa and Ryan knew early on that something wasn’t quite right with their son. By 12 months, Thatcher was receiving physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and feeding therapy. MRIs and initial genetic testings were soon completed, with nothing remarkable being shown. Then, in 2020, COVID came, and everything shut down, including all of the doctor’s offices. A year later, Thatcher was finally able to have appointments again and received his diagnosis at the age of 4.
